Are you looking for a large volume water well for a municipality, business, farm, irrigation project, or another application? If so, Call Us to find out if we can accommodate your needs.

Types of Commercial Wells

Most large volume water wells fall into two categories. The first utilizes submersible pumps and the second utilizes line shaft turbines. The most common process uses a wide range of submersible pumps to accommodate the size and needs of a business. The latter is typically best suited for large industrial purposes and is a complicated and time-consuming ordeal.

Submersible Water Pumps

A pump is selected by the driller to produce the needed amount of water pressure and volume using the lowest horsepower possible. This will maximize results while keeping costs under control. Submersible pumps are extremely efficient because they are designed to take advantage of the natural flow of ground water.

The pump itself has a sealed motor attached to the body and is fully submerged into the well via a flexible pipe. Water enters the intake part of the pump and the impeller pushes it through the diffuser. The water ends up in a pressurized tank connected to the building. When water is drawn from that tank, the pressure goes down causing a switch to kick on the pumping action. The pump automatically shuts off when the tank is at optimum capacity.

On-Site Evaluation

During an on-site evaluation, expectations, needs and budgets are discussed between the owner and the well driller. Several aspects are determined, such as the best location for the well, the estimated well depth and an assessment of equipment needed to complete the project. Costs for drilling, well construction and installation of elements are also estimated during this initial visit.

Well System Construction

When the agreed upon date arrives, the drilling begins. Wells are often drilled deeper than the ground water table to ensure the water supply is ample and consistent. Well construction consists of walls (usually plastic or steel well casing) to keep it from collapsing with a cover to prevent contamination. After the well casing is installed the pump is lowered into the well with the water line attached. The water line is then routed to the pressure tank, which is usually located inside the building.

Continuing Customer Service

Service to the customer does not end once water is flowing freely from the well to the business. Submersible pumps are designed to last several years and are virtually maintenance-free. The best way to make sure the pump is operating correctly and efficiently is to have it inspected by the water professional who drilled the well on an annual basis. The drilling company will assign an experienced driller to conduct the annual inspections.
